The U.S. treats these nations uniquely by giving them access to many U.S. domestic programs. For the tuna industry, Guam, together with the states under the Compact of Free Association (COFA) is steward to the most productive tuna fishing grounds in the world – the Western Tropical Pacific (WTP). This is a body of water as large as the United States of America itself. At any given time, there would be approximately 150-200 tuna purse seiners fishing in this area.

CASAMAR GUAM: CASAMAR GUAM was established in Guam in 1980. After purchasing the Dillingham Shipyard at Apra Harbor in 1981, CASAMAR ventured into Ship Repair. For the last 28 years, CASAMAR GUAM has provided ship repair and net repair services to the tuna fishing vessels. At the height of the American Tuna purse seine industry in the 1980s, there were as many 80 tuna vessels calling the Port of Guam. CASAMAR GUAM continuous to provide products and services to the marine industry especially tuna purse seiners in Guam as well as deliveries to vessels in Pohnpei where it has a branch. Through joint ventures, it provides specialized ship repair services to military vessels and other types of marine vessels. CASAMAR GUAM is a 5-acre facility with a 670 ft pier with an average depth of 24 feet to provide dockside ship repair within at Apra Harbor within the Commercial Port of Guam.

SPECIAL SERVICES: CASAMAR GUAM provides net repair and ship repair services. It carries an inventory of netting, twines, ropes, wire ropes, hardware, and other misc. marine supplies. It sells USED PURSE SEINE NETS as well as BRAND NEW TUNA PURSE SEINE NETS. It has a full-service ship repair facility.
